photo of Rinda West, credit: John H. White Rinda West  holds certificates from the School of the Chicago Botanic Garden in Ornamental Plant Materials and Midwest Gardening. She continues to take courses and workshops at the Botanic Garden, Northwestern University, and through her professional societies.

Rinda has a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Leeds, England. She taught for more than 30 years at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines.Her book, Out of the Shadow: Ecopsychology, Stories, and Encounters with the Land will be published in the fall of 2007 by the University of Virginia Press. She also does free lance writing and college coaching.

Rinda's interest in native plants began in the early 90's when she became involved with the North Branch Restoration Project. She continues to volunteer in restoring native prairies and oak savannahs to the local forest preserves. She is a member of the boards of both the Midwest Ecological Landscaping Association and the Landscape Design Association, and she is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. In 2005, she received the Greening of Ravenswood Certificate of Appreciation for Community Beautification.
